Aprilia Tuareg 660 Gut Guard Skid Plate

$359.00 USD

Camel ADV Gut Guard for Aprilia Tuareg – Built for the Wild, Tested in the Canadian Rockies!

Your Aprilia Tuareg 660 is a serious ADV machine, but to fully unleash its off-road potential, it needs serious protection. If you’re planning to leave the pavement behind, it’s time to armor up with the Camel ADV Gut Guard Skid Plate!

Like most modern bikes, the Tuareg 660 uses the engine as a "stressed member," meaning the motor is a crucial part of the frame. While this design enhances performance, it presents a challenge as there are not lower frame rails to mount a skid plate to and mounting a skid plate directly to the engine can transfer impact forces to the engine case, leading to costly and time-consuming repairs.

Why the Camel ADV Gut Guard?

We’ve got you covered with our innovative impact-absorbing subframe mounting system. The Camel ADV Gut Guard is designed to distribute the energy from hits across multiple mounting points, significantly reducing the risk of damage to your engine case from rocks, roots, stumps, and other off-road hazards.

This skid plate has been through extensive design and testing in the rugged Canadian Rockies, ensuring it’s tough enough to handle anything you throw at it.

Key Features:
- 4.78mm (3/16") 5052 aluminum body for extreme durability
- Powder-coated finish for long-lasting style and toughness
- 304 stainless steel subframe to absorb impacts and protect your engine
- Drainage holes to allow mud, water, and debris to escape
- Catalytic converter cover to keep heat away from your boots
Optional full-coverage UHMW slip-liner for even more protection

Perfect Fitment for Your Ride
This skid plate is confirmed to fit with the following crash bar systems:
- OEM Aprilia
- Hepco Becker
- HEED

(We’re adding more systems soon!)

Center Stand Compatibility

Gut Guard Tuareg 660

This thing is a piece of art. I kept braking brackets with the Outback Moto guard and there’s no way this one is going to do the same. Great mounting points, solid welds, and a great coating.

Well made and strong

The only drawback is that it creates a resonance box which makes my engine now sound like an old tin can.

Super nice

Looks amazing and no doubt is incredibly strong. It was a bit of a pain to put on, but everything fits tight and now that it is on I love it.

This is an excellent skid plate. I have oem crash bars, so for me the video was all I needed for the installation. After a few rides I noticed quite a few long gouge marks on the underside, so I bought a piece of 12" x 24" x 1/4" UHMW plastic to cover the bottom and front. It was a pain to cut all the access holes, mounting holes and the stainless steel hardware was expensive. I would recommend everyone just pay the extra and get it installed. It's also nice to be able to lift my bike with a motorcycle scissor jack for chain and rear tire maintenance, since I don't have a center stand. In conclusion: I think this is a well engineered good bit of kit.

For $500 plus, I expected more.

UPDATE - (I can play along with your game) The aftermarket company outlines what appears to be an inconvenience to him being reached out to on Memorial Day weekend; sorry to inconvenience you. Remember who the customer is... The very reason I left a two star review (so quickly) is not only do you have to remove bolts to even make the skid plate work, but when someone says, “If you can tell me the spacer lengths that HEED is using with their crash bars, I can do the math”… Yeah, at that point, I lost complete confidence in the company, and reviewed accordingly. Poor attempt to divert attention to my quick review, as nothing would have or would change my mind that for $500 plus, this should not have happened in the first place. The expectation is whether you spend $10 or $1000, that the item be provided to you in working order with no weird issues like bolts to remove, and at the very very least, some solid instructions on how to mount the item. This isn’t rocket science. It felt like you don’t know what you are doing. I basically (carefully) figured it out by myself, of which is unnerving, of which is why, partially why I gave a TWO STAR review. No one is expecting you or anyone to do things perfectly in this situation; (nice attempt to deflect THE REAL PROBLEM(S) of which include as of this date, no true clear instructions exist online, and when bolts are removed to make a product work, I mean, come on….).

Back to my review - Their video briefly (vaguely) talks about various sized spacers for different crash bars, then alludes to their website and PDFs with specific spacers and bolts to be used for various applications, (of which does not exist on their website, as of 5/26/2024). Also, you have to remove two bolts, of which are used to mount slip material, to even be able to mount the skid plate... So now I have an incomplete build with no real way to ensure I do not use the wrong length bolt, of which was a significant concern when I had mounted my crash bars, as the instructions for the crash bars specifically warned about potential damage to the engine by putting a bolt too long in the head of the motor, as the bike requires two different lengths of bolts on the right and left side of the bike, and concerns about cracking or breaking the engine... For $500 you would think this company would have there ish together. Pathetic. And yes I am Lee. John Smith is the generic name the review provides. Also, one last thing: you state FOR me that I am unhappy with the product. You came to that assumption. What I’m “unhappy” about, (I could care less at this point), is the lack of follow through with some pretty basic expectations a person would have when purchasing a product. I had a new product in my backyard; how do I properly install it? The company doesn’t even have that information available. If anything, that’s where there’s discrepancy. Let’s get real.

Hello Lee (aka John Smith),

We absolutely dropped the ball by not having the PDF listed on the website. You emailed us at 7:40pm MST on Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend and I replied 20mins later. I apoligized for the missing PDF and asked you for some basic info about your crash bars so I could, in return, get you the info you needed to complete your install that night. A few minutes after that, you left us this 2 star review and then emailed to say you didn't want my help and you run the skid plate without the upper mounting brackets (not advisable).

Try as we may, we don't always get everything perfect but we are always willing to assist customers who want our help. You're unhappy with the product, no problem, we'll take a return on it and cover the shipping.
