We wrap up the Ducati Dirty Dozen with a failed attempt at Black Bear Pass. It was closed due to "An unstable rock face." Technically, the pass was open all the way to the summit but closed on the San Miguel County side. There was a locked gate a few hundred meters from the summit on the San Juan County side. We rode to the sign and turned back.

We spent the night in Silverton, then rode Engineer Pass from the Poughkeepsie Gulch side. We'd been up Engineer Pass a couple times previously, but all were from the Animas Forks side, which is much mellower.
